Pep Talk for Authors
The publishing industry is tough. Rejections and critical feedback hurts. I get it. I've been there countless times.

Feeling down? Let me give you a quick pep talk.
Rejection is normal
PLEASE don't quit.
Every writer gets rejected.

Every. Single. One.

I had 400 rejections before signing with my first agent, Jessica Reino of Metamorphosis Literary Agency. (She has since left the business for health reasons.)

Trust me, I know how much it hurts. To be rejected over and over again is difficult on your mental health.

If you need a break, take it. Turn off your email for a bit. Let yourself cry, scream, and be sad. Do something fun, something that makes you feel good.

Then get back in the saddle. Someone out there needs your work, your writing. So please, don't give up. For them AND for you.

The perfect agent and publisher is out there, but you have to keep going. You can do this. You are strong.

If it takes you a hundred queries, or even a thousand, then so be it. You have time. There's no expiry date on your dreams.
Remember: This is not an overnight career. Usually, it takes YEARS or DECADES to make it. In truth, you need a lot of luck, patience, and persistence.

And another thing: The business is subjective. What one agent hates could be exactly what another agent is looking for. So, please, please, PLEASE don't take criticism to heart. Opinions and tastes vary greatly.

You're in it for the long haul, so enjoy the ride. When you look back one day after making it, you'll be so proud of yourself for keeping on going.

I believe in you!
